AMMAN — While Jordanians are watching the athletes at
the
2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo,
they might not have noticed the Jordanian referees and officials
performing alongside Jordan’s 14 athletes.

Jordanian
referees blew the first whistle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men`s football
competitions, in the opening match between Egypt and Spain.
Azzam

Adham
Makhadmeh, the only head Arab referee on the field at the football competitions,
was assisted by off-the-field referees Mohammad Bakkar and Ahmad Al-Rweli.
Ayad
Mghairah, who was elected as the chairman of the referees committee in the Arab
Fencing Federation, represented Jordanian referees at fencing competitions.
Jordan's
international badminton referee, Basil Al-Nubani, refereed the badminton competitions
at the Tokyo Olympics; Nubani, an ex-badminton national player, is the only
Arab referee officiating the sport at the Games.
Adam Amawi,
who was nominated as the second best referee at the World Taekwondo
Championships 2019 in the Russian, is officiating the Olympic Games tournament.
Azzam
Al-Zubi head of the Paralympics Power Lifting Federation has
not missed an Olympics as a referee since 1992 in
Barcelona. He officiated in 1996 in Atlanta, at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 2004
Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics, and the 2016 Rio
de Janeiro Olympics.
Finally,
Taha Mahjoub, a public spokesman of the Jordanian Boxing federation and general
supervisor of the 2019 Asian Boxing Championships held in Bangkok, has officiated
the men`s boxing competitions in Tokyo, alongside Nabeel Abd Al-Kareem.
