Threads, the Meta-owned platform, has announced the launch of a new AI-powered feature that allows users to customize their feed directly and temporarily through a tool called “Dear Algo.”

The new feature enables users to publish a public post starting with the phrase “Dear Algo,” followed by the type of content they would like to see more or less of.
For example, a user could write: “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts,” prompting the algorithm to adjust their feed accordingly for three days, according to a report published by TechCrunch.
Customization — But Public
Notably, these requests are posted publicly, meaning other users can view them and even repost them to apply the same preference to their own feeds.
While this public nature may raise concerns for users who prefer to keep their interests private, Meta believes it enhances the platform’s community-driven feel and transforms personalization into a shared, interactive experience.
Beyond the “Not Interested” Button
Although Threads—along with platforms like X and Bluesky—already offers a “Not Interested” option to reduce certain content, Dear Algo provides a deeper level of control. It allows users to directly guide the algorithm toward specific topics for a limited period.
The company says the goal is to make feeds more responsive to real-time events. For instance, users could request more posts during a live NBA game or reduce content related to a TV series they haven’t watched yet.
Gradual Rollout and Notable Usage Figures
The feature is currently available in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand to additional markets later.
The launch of Dear Algo comes weeks after a Similarweb report indicated that Threads had surpassed X in terms of daily active mobile users.
According to the report, as of January 7, 2026, the Threads mobile app had 141.5 million daily active users, compared to 125 million for X.
Although X continues to lead on the web, the Threads app on iOS and Android has been recording significant user growth in recent months.
With this move, Meta aims to strengthen the platform’s real-time engagement and reinforce its position in the increasingly competitive fast-paced social media landscape.
