The milestone reflects accelerating user adoption of Gemini, which has quickly established itself as a major player in the generative AI market.

In the previous quarter, Google reported 650 million monthly active users, indicating a notable jump within just a few months, according to a report by TechCrunch.

By comparison, Meta announced that its AI assistant, Meta AI, is nearing 500 million monthly users, while Gemini remains slightly behind its largest competitor, ChatGPT, whose user base is estimated at around 810 million by the end of 2025.

Gemini 3 Launch Fuels Growth

The announcement follows the launch of Gemini 3, Google’s latest AI model, which the company describes as its most advanced to date, delivering answers with unprecedented depth and accuracy.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that integrating Gemini 3 into AI Mode has been a positive driver of growth, stressing that continued investment and development will help sustain this momentum.

Lower-Priced Subscription to Attract Users

In a move to expand its reach, Google recently introduced a new lower-cost subscription plan called Google AI Plus, priced at $7.99 per month, aimed at attracting a broader segment of cost-conscious users.

The company noted that the plan was launched very recently and has not yet impacted the current quarter’s results.

Philip Schindler, Google’s Chief Business Officer, said during an investor call: “We’re focused on combining the free version with paid subscriptions, and we’re seeing very strong growth.”

Record Numbers for Google

Gemini’s growth comes as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, posts strong financial performance, with annual revenues exceeding $400 billion for the first time in its history—an achievement the company partly attributes to the rapid expansion of its AI business.

Google also recently unveiled the next generation of its custom AI processors, TPU Ironwood, aiming to compete with Nvidia’s dominant chips in the sector.

In the earnings statement, Pichai said: “The launch of Gemini 3 was a pivotal moment, and we have strong momentum. Our core models like Gemini now process more than 10 billion tokens per minute via APIs. The Gemini app has grown to over 750 million monthly active users, while Search recorded its highest usage ever, driven by expanded AI adoption.”

These developments underscore that the global AI race among tech giants remains at its peak, with intensifying competition to attract users worldwide.
