WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature designed to help users verify links shared within chats on iOS version 24.7.10.70. The feature is currently in beta testing and gives users greater control over the links they share in individual and group conversations.

With the new feature, when a user shares a link within WhatsApp, the app prompts them with a website preview that includes details such as the title, meta description, site icon, and an accompanying image describing the link’s content.
On the other hand, the website receives a request and sends a response to the requesting app. However, this process may reveal the user’s IP address to the website. Using this feature, users can disable link previews, thereby protecting their IP addresses from being requested by external websites.
Verifying Link Identity on WhatsApp
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp aims to improve how links are displayed in chats when previews are available, making them easier to read and enhancing the overall user experience.
Under the new approach, WhatsApp has introduced a redesigned way of displaying links in chats and groups to reduce visual clutter. Link previews are now clearer and more organized. Instead of showing a very long URL, WhatsApp displays only the essential information, such as the link preview, the protocol used by the website, the subdomain name, and the main domain name.
It is worth noting that links shared as captions for photos and videos will retain their previous settings. In addition, links shared when the link preview option is disabled in privacy settings will continue to display the full URL path to ensure transparency and clarity, thereby safeguarding users.
How to Access the Link Verification Feature
According to WhatsApp, the feature is currently available to users who install the latest WhatsApp updates for iOS from the App Store. It will gradually be rolled out to a wider audience over the coming weeks, allowing more users to experience clearer and more secure link previews before its global release.
Recently, WhatsApp also developed a new feature aimed at protecting minors from harassment while using the app. This feature includes the introduction of secondary accounts that enable parents to manage linked accounts for their children. These accounts restrict messages and calls to contacts only by default, and allow parents to review privacy settings and share activity updates without revealing the content of messages.
