Jordan’s Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) has launched the trial operation of two new intercity bus routes connecting Amman with Tafilah and Ma’an, as part of the second phase of the government’s project to modernize scheduled public transportation between the Kingdom’s governorates.
The initiative is being implemented in accordance with a Cabinet decision issued in February.
Obadah Abu Qamar, Director of the Inter-Governorate Public Transport Project at the LTRC, said the second phase includes the operation of two main routes linking the capital with Tafilah and Ma’an through Rawabi Tafilah and Rubou’ Ma’an, two companies established by consortiums of existing transport operators serving the routes.
He noted that operating agreements have been signed to ensure the sustainability of the service while safeguarding passengers’ rights.
Abu Qamar said the new phase forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to upgrade intercity public transport services in line with modern technical and operational standards, providing a safe, reliable, and regular service that meets the needs of passengers.
The Amman–Tafilah route will be served by a fleet of 33 large and medium-sized buses, operating daily from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with departures every 25 to 40 minutes.
The route will cover several destinations, including:
* South Bus Station – Tafilah Bus Terminal
* Tafilah Bus Terminal – Sweileh – University of Jordan
* Al-Qadisiyah – South Bus Station
* Busaira – South Bus Station
* Al-Hasa – King Hussein Medical City
Meanwhile, the Amman–Ma’an route will operate with a fleet of 14 large and medium-sized buses, running from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with departures every 45 to 60 minutes along the main corridor between the South Bus Station in Amman and the Ma’an Bus Terminal.
Abu Qamar said the Commission’s inspection teams will monitor operations throughout the trial period to ensure compliance with operating schedules and evaluate service quality ahead of the full rollout.
He also encouraged the public to use the new routes and adhere to the designated schedules and terminals, noting that passenger feedback during the trial phase will play a key role in improving the quality of intercity public transportation services.
