The government issued a circular regarding the use of artificial intelligence programs, tools, and applications when handling national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals.
The circular was issued in light of the potential impact that artificial intelligence technologies could have on the integrity and authenticity of these emblems and symbols, or changes they could cause to their nature or approved form.
The directive applies to all ministries, official departments, public institutions and bodies, state universities, municipalities, the Greater Amman Municipality, joint services councils, and government-owned companies.
The circular stipulates the prohibition of using artificial intelligence programs, tools, or applications to create, generate, modify, process, enhance, or alter national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals. It also bans introducing any visual elements or effects onto them if doing so compromises their authenticity or changes their approved form or substance.
Furthermore, it strictly prohibits the publication, circulation, endorsement, or use of any national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, or official seals that have been created, modified, or processed using artificial intelligence technologies if it undermines their integrity or official character.
The circular calls for using only original or approved versions of national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals. This comes amid the rapid expansion of AI applications in design and content production, which may result in unintended alterations to the shapes, colors, and approved details of national symbols.
The circular does not conflict with leveraging artificial intelligence technologies for media planning, idea development, content drafting, analysis, review, and improving presentation methods, provided that it does not cause any alteration to the authenticity, form, substance, or official specifications of national and sovereign symbols.
This directive is driven by the permanent national and sovereign significance these symbols represent, and the regulations set by effective legislation for their use. It aims to protect them from any modifications or processing that might affect their authenticity or compromise their integrity and official status, ensuring they are used correctly and uniformly across media, official, digital, and advertising materials.
The government requested all covered entities to take the necessary measures to ensure their employees, users, and staff strictly adhere to the provisions of this circular.
