The seminar was attended by Dr. Muhammad Al-Khattab and Dr. Sarah Al-Suheil, and was moderated by media personality Professor Ayat Al-Barghouthi, who welcomed the attendees, introduced the two guests, and moderated the dialogue in a professional manner that allowed ample space for discussion and exchange of opinions.
At the outset of the seminar, Dr. Mohammed Al-Khattab addressed the concept of emotional intelligence as one of the most important human skills, helping individuals understand and manage their own emotions and interact positively with the emotions of others. He explained that emotional intelligence is no less important than intellectual intelligence in building a successful personality and achieving psychological and social balance. He also reviewed the close relationship between emotional intelligence and positive thinking, clarifying that the ability to control emotions, manage stress, and communicate effectively contributes to improving family, social, and professional relationships.
He emphasized the importance of engaging with young people, understanding the nature of the developmental stage they are going through, and adopting dialogue and social intelligence in dealing with them, given the curiosity and desire to discover themselves and the world that characterize this stage.
For her part, Dr. Sarah Al-Suheil presented a lecture entitled “Mental Health in the Digital Age”, during which she addressed the major transformations that modern technology and social media have imposed on the mental health of children, adolescents, youth and even adults, noting that the digital world has become an integral part of daily life, which requires building a community awareness that is better at dealing with it instead of rejecting it or being led astray by its dangers.
Al-Suheil stressed that the uncontrolled use of technology may lead to increased rates of anxiety, depression, social isolation, sleep disorders, poor concentration, and digital addiction, as well as the effects of social comparisons, cyberbullying, and violent or misleading content on mental health and personality development, especially among children and adolescents.
She also stressed the importance of establishing the concept of digital education within the family and school, and teaching children critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, time management, and the distinction between the virtual world and reality, stressing that protecting mental health in the digital age has become a shared responsibility between the family, educational and media institutions, decision-makers, and technology companies.
The seminar witnessed remarkable interaction from the attendees, who enriched the meeting with interventions and questions. A discussion took place about the best ways to promote mental health and build a generation that possesses awareness, psychological resilience, and the ability to adapt to the rapid changes witnessed in the digital age.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Maram Abu Al-Nadi, President of the Future Cultural Forum, and poet Saleh Al-Jaafra, President of the Arab House Cultural Forum, honored the participants and supporters of the event, in appreciation of their scientific and cultural contributions, stressing the continuation of cooperation in holding seminars and programs that contribute to spreading knowledge and serving the community.
The event concluded by emphasizing that promoting mental health and developing emotional intelligence are today two essential pillars for building a more conscious and cohesive society, capable of facing the challenges of the digital age with confidence and responsibility.
