Dr. Sofia Suleim, a psychologist, has highlighted the adverse health effects of emotional suppression in men, particularly the act of holding back tears, which she says may increase the risk of cardiovascular and digestive diseases.اضافة اعلان

According to Dr. Suleim, society often imposes the belief that boys should not cry from a young age. They are expected to be strong and patient in all situations. However, this societal norm may contribute to many adult men struggling to express their emotions properly.

“It’s important to emphasize that crying is completely natural for men,” she explained. “But it usually requires a safe environment. For instance, a man may feel comfortable expressing his emotions while watching a movie alone or with loved ones, as most men are unlikely to cry in front of strangers.”

She added that repressing emotions often leads to cardiovascular problems such as ischemic heart disease and angina. The digestive system also suffers, with stress potentially leading to conditions like gastritis, duodenitis, ulcers, and other disorders.

Dr. Suleim also warned against abnormal emotional reactions such as excessive agitation, noting that escaping destructive emotional states can be particularly difficult.

Complementing these insights, Dr. Yekaterina Egonina, another psychology expert, stated that long-term suppression of negative emotions can lead to physical illnesses. “Repressed emotions gradually break down the body from within,” she said.
