Google has introduced an innovative security feature called “Identity Verification” designed to safeguard sensitive user data on Pixel phones. The core idea is to prevent access to your personal information even if someone discovers your PIN or password.

This feature requires biometric verification—such as fingerprint or face unlock—before allowing any sensitive actions on the device. For example, if a thief steals your phone, they won’t be able to access stored passwords in Google Password Manager or other sensitive apps unless they pass a fingerprint or facial recognition check. In essence, the feature acts as an additional gatekeeper, ensuring only you can access your data.
The “Identity Verification” feature is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop update, scheduled for December, as part of the stable release of Android 16.
Biometric security on Pixel phones is already highly advanced. Face Unlock on the Pixel 8 and newer models has achieved a Class 3 security rating—the same level as Apple’s Face ID. This rating ensures strong resistance to spoofing by photos or masks, making it reliable for banking and payment transactions. This level of trust further enhances the effectiveness of “Identity Verification” in providing maximum protection for your personal information.
