AMMAN — Mosaica, Jordan’s renowned choir, whose inspiring journey started in 2018, is holding four live concerts from December 9 to 12, in Amman, at the Orthodox Educational Society’s theatre in Shmeisani. The event is titled Thrill of Hope, and the tagline on the tickets reads “An enchanting musical night wrapped in singing, magic and warmth.”اضافة اعلان

By making the effort to prepare and organize the concerts, and to have the choir members follow a strict and demanding rehearsal schedule for four months in a row, in circumstances that are less than ideal for such a group project, Mosaica is showing its commitment to the music-loving community in Amman. The organizers are keeping this way the promise they made last September, which was “to perform live in December this year.”

Speaking to Jordan News during a break at a recent rehearsal session that showed everybody’s enthusiasm and cheerful spirit, the choir’s artistic director Mercedes Alonso, who also sings with the choir, said that it was possible to carry out the project thanks to the deep love for music that every choir member and everyone on the managing and organizing team has.

Did the pandemic make things difficult?

“It is sometimes when people are challenged that they are most motivated and able to be at their best. After all, it is a teamwork, and our team is amazing. There may be storms on the way, but it is a journey after all, and it is always worth it in the end.”

Alonso stressed that strict health safety measures will be enforced at the concerts, including requiring proof of vaccination, wearing masks, and maintaining physical distancing, with one seat left unoccupied between every two spectators.

The choir will be accompanied by musicians on accordion, flute, piano, percussions, and guitar. All players, except for the pianist and arranger Nareg Abajian, are also singers with the ensemble. The other two vocal and instrumental arrangers are Yazan Jurf and Qussai Al-Daker. Charismatic and dynamic maestro and founder Nedy Muna will conduct the ensemble, as he has been doing from the very start.

There will be songs in English, in Arabic, and even one in Swahili! Most will have Christmas as a main theme. Mary Did You Know, Little Drummer Boy, Dawwi Ya Nijmeh (Shine, O Star), Silent Night, Adeste Fideles, and Snowman are some of the songs that Mosaica will sing.
