Dr. Alexandra Noev, a specialist in gastrointestinal diseases, explains that strong cravings for meat, salty foods, or sweets are often linked to deficiencies in vitamins and micronutrients in the body.اضافة اعلان

According to Dr. Noev, a persistent craving for sweets—especially chocolate—may indicate a magnesium deficiency.

She adds, “These products also contain tryptophan, an amino acid that relaxes the nervous system. It also stimulates the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, which is why some people find it hard to fall asleep without eating a piece of chocolate.”

To reduce sweet cravings, the doctor recommends eating more seafood, which is high in protein and can help curb the desire for sugary treats.

As for salty food cravings, Dr. Noev notes that they often signal dehydration. This is the body's way of urging a person to consume more fluids. She advises drinking warm water, ideally at around 45°C, to rehydrate effectively.

She also points out that sudden cravings for meat, especially in women, may indicate a deficiency in vitamin B12 or low ferritin levels. It could also suggest a lack of iron or vitamin B9 (folate).
