Macramé is a flexible textile art that can be used to construct everything from wall hangings and plant hangers to mirrors, purses, and more decorative pieces.

“I used to see macramé since I was a child,” Abu Moghli, said in an interview with Jordan News.

Moghli added that “The origins of macramé are interesting, with a history stretching back thousands of years. Some believe the phrase comes from the Arabic word ‘migramah.’”

Moghli mainly uses pure cotton for her macramé, but she noted that there are a wide variety of natural and synthetic fibers that can be used for the art form.

For Moghli, macramé is a “mindful craft.”

“Macramé can be a stress reliever and provide a sense of calm. Furthermore, concentrating on the task at hand leads a person to experience more positive emotions and be more relaxed.” she said, adding: “I enjoy working with my hands.”

Macramé may be best known for its bohemian style, according to Moghli, as “it was used to construct wall hangings, plant hangers, and accessories, and it came to embody the Bohemian style. The craft's popularity diminished over time, but now Macramé is back and trendy.”

The artist believes that macramé is nice way to change your home style. “Macramé has a lovely vintage look to it. When colorful, white, and cream macramé string, cording, or roping, each piece adds a unique touch of comfortable, neutral texture to your decor.”

In addition, each piece of macramé, according to Moghli, has a lot of knots and takes up to several days to complete.

The macramé pieces are delicately weaved on hoops that serve as integrated frames that give a unique appearance.

Moghli said that, traditionally, the macramé’s original color is beige, and other colors were only recently added. But in her designs she uses many colors, however, she emphasizes the color beige.

“People usually choose to order the unique beige macramé more than other colors because it suits every personal style.”

Moghli has a wide selection of macramé pieces such as wall planet hangers, wall hangings, dream catchers, wall mirrors, and lampshades. Moreover, she added that she has created the “Boho macramé face collection.”

Despite her knowledge of the basics of creating macramé when she was younger, Moghli improved her macramé skills further during the lockdowns in 2020.

“Since March 2020 I have been working on my skills and creating designs and pieces, and in July I have launched my online business,” she told Jordan News.

She is currently working to expand her business, she noted.
