After More Than 3 Years.. Mohamed Ramadan Returns to Drama with "Khalifat Azrael"
Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan went on a long journey looking for an exciting dramatic story to make his comeback to the audience after an absence of more than 3 years. His last dramatic work was the series "Jaafar El Omda," which aired in 2023, after which he disappeared from his fans' sight without any clear reasons.اضافة اعلان

It seems that Ramadan has found what he was looking for all this time. He has started preparing for a new series, the story of which he wrote himself, under the tentative title "Khalifat Azrael" (Azrael's Successor). The show promises plenty of excitement, suspense, and intense events that will keep the audience glued to every scene.

Portraying the Character of "Ashmawi"

In this context, a source close to the artist revealed in exclusive remarks to AlArabiya.net that Ramadan was keen on making a very powerful return to TV drama. Therefore, he kept searching for an exciting and suspenseful story that explores a new world that the audience wants to learn about and get closer to. He ultimately chose to center the series' events around a prison executioner, colloquially referred to as "Ashmawi."

The source added that Ramadan wrote the story of the series himself, which revolves around a young prison guard working in an Egyptian prison who is chosen to carry out death sentences on criminals and convicts. The work reveals the other side of this man's personality, shedding light on his private life, daily interactions, family, and children, as well as how he deals with his neighbors, relatives, and people he meets on the street.

Disagreement with Ahmed Mourad

The source also explained that the work highlights the death row inmates, their daily lives, and the feeling of remorse that consumes their minds every moment they wait for death. Because of this, the series required a specific type of writer skilled in writing psychological works and building complex dramatic characters. The initial choice was screenwriter Ahmed Mourad, who actually started writing the dramatic treatment for the series, but apologized and stepped down a few days later.

The source pointed out that a disagreement in viewpoints between Ramadan and Mourad was the reason behind the latter bowing out of writing the series. Following this, Ramadan and director Peter Mimi began a new search for a writer to handle the scriptwriting duties for the episodes, eventually selecting screenwriter Mohamed Ismail Amin, who will begin writing the first episodes within the next few days.

As for the co-stars in the work, the director is still holding working sessions with Ramadan to select the cast. Artists Hatem Salah and Ghada Abdel Razek have been initially selected, though they have not officially signed contracts to star in the series yet.

It is worth noting that Mohamed Ramadan's last dramatic work was the series "Jaafar El Omda," which aired during the month of Ramadan in 2023 and achieved massive success. The creators were even planning a second part, but the project was halted due to a lack of enthusiasm from writer and director Mohamed Sami.

The series co-starred Iman El Assi, Hala Sedki, Mai Kassab, Ahmed Dash, Ahmed Fahim, and Zeina.
