For the second consecutive day, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) continued its "Leave It Clean 2026" campaign in Aqaba and the Wadi Rum area. Launched during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the campaign reinforces ASEZA's commitment to environmental preservation and urban aesthetics, aligning with Royal directives declaring 2026 the "Year of Cleanliness." It also integrates with the National Plan to combat littering, led by the Ministry of Environment.

The campaign features extensive field cleaning operations and the distribution of eco-friendly cloth bags to visitors at tourist sites, aiming to reduce plastic bag use and promote sustainable alternatives.
Taghrid Al-Maayta, Director of the Environment Directorate at ASEZA, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the campaign is part of a strategic 2024 plan to raise environmental awareness and foster a culture of cleanliness at beaches and public spaces.
Key Highlights of the Campaign:
Distribution: Approximately 2,000 cloth bags were distributed to visitors and picnickers at various tourist sites and beaches during the second and third days of Eid al-Fitr.
Awareness: Field teams conducted awareness sessions urging visitors to collect waste and dispose of it in designated bins.
Community Partnership: The efforts aim to encourage visitors to take personal responsibility for the city’s natural beauty, especially during high-traffic holiday periods.
Regulation: ASEZA provided guidance on reducing plastic waste and briefed the public on environmental regulations and the penalties for littering.
The campaign will continue across Aqaba and Wadi Rum through specialized field teams dedicated to environmental education and the distribution of hygiene supplies.
