The total value of unpaid bills by the end of the third quarter of this year rose by JD50 million compared to the same period in 2020, where unpaid bills topped just JD538 million.

The number of subscribers within the concession of the Jordanian Electric Power Company reached 1.5 million subscribers in the central governorates of Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, and Salt, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

The company’s quarterly data showed total profit decreased from JD95.7 million dinars at the end of September of 2020, to JD86.4 million by the end of the third quarter of 2021.

The government recently announced a new tariff structure and distribution of costs on the domestic sector according to the amount of power consumed by several segments. The new structure will be applied in the first four months of 2022.

Hussein Laboun, chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), said that the application of the new electric tariff structure “will have a positive impact on the consumer segments”, explaining that for 93 percent of subscribers who consume less than 600 kilowatt-hours per month, or who’s bills are less than JD50, “tariffs will be reduced or remain unaffected”.
