The meeting follows a proposal by Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer Al-Ghriri, submitted during his meeting with Kharabsheh on the sidelines of the Iraq Investment Forum 2025 held in Baghdad last September.
The proposal aims to leverage Jordanian expertise in renewable energy to meet the energy needs of employees at the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, through the ministry and its affiliate, the General Company for Construction Materials Trade.
During the meeting, Kharabsheh noted that the initiative could be expanded to other ministries in Iraq through coordination and the establishment of a joint operational framework, presenting a significant opportunity for the Jordanian private sector to participate in implementing solar energy projects.
He added that Iraq is taking clear steps toward increasing the share of renewable energy in its overall energy mix, expressing Jordan’s readiness to enhance cooperation and share expertise in ways that serve the interests of both countries.
The Ministry’s Secretary-General, Amani Al-Azzam, discussed the technical aspects of the initiative with private sector representatives, laying the groundwork for implementation mechanisms and studying opportunities to expand the project’s scope.
Representatives from several private companies expressed strong interest in the initiative, emphasizing the importance of partnership and the expansion of such projects due to the mutual benefits for participating companies and end beneficiaries alike.
