The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Tuesday raised its forecast for global oil supply growth in 2025 after the OPEC+ alliance decided to increase production, while cutting its demand growth outlook amid worsening economic conditions.

In its monthly oil report, the agency said:
“Oil use will remain under pressure through the rest of 2025 and into 2026, leading to projected annual growth of about 700,000 barrels per day in both years.”
The IEA noted that this figure is “well below the historical average.”
It added that a tougher macroeconomic environment and the rapid expansion of electric vehicle adoption are contributing to a sharp slowdown in oil consumption growth.
