National exports to EU countries reached JD 228 million during the first half of the year, compared to JD 200 million for the same period last year.

Italy topped the list of EU countries importing Jordanian exports during this period, with an 80 percent increase, amounting to JD 45 million compared to JD 25 million for the same period last year.

The list of Jordanian goods exported to EU markets includes garments, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and chemical products, in addition to several agricultural products and others.

Board member of the Jordanian European Business Association (JEBA), Eng. Mohammad Al-Samadi, confirmed that Jordanian exports have begun to strongly compete in European markets thanks to their high quality and compliance with standards, which enhance importers’ confidence and create wider opportunities for growth and expansion.

He told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that “this growth is due to several factors, most notably the expansion of Jordanian companies in opening new marketing channels within Europe, improving production and logistics efficiency, adhering to European quality and compliance requirements, as well as the active role of promotional programs and exhibitions that increased awareness of Jordanian products among European importers.”

He added, “There is greater potential to double exports if exporters can overcome challenges such as high shipping and energy costs, administrative and technical complexities, and the need for further support in marketing and innovation.”

Al-Samadi pointed out that JEBA continues to link the Jordanian business community with its European counterparts through trade missions, business meetings, and promotional platforms, in addition to following up on challenges with the relevant authorities to attract investments and expand targeted markets.

He stressed the importance of reviewing the Jordan-EU Partnership Agreement to facilitate the export of agricultural products and food industries, ensuring fairness for the national industry, boosting exports, growing the economy, and creating job opportunities.

He also highlighted the importance of expediting the establishment of an integrated national traceability system for food and animal products (such as cheese, processed meats, and dairy), which is crucial for recording data and information related to national products. This would ensure effective resource use, enhance competitiveness, and maximize the benefits of trade agreements signed with the EU, which require such a system for imports.

Al-Samadi concluded that strengthening Jordanian exports to Europe is a vital path for sustainable economic growth, calling for expanded partnerships with the European private sector and activation of technical and trade cooperation programs, with a focus on targeted marketing, studying European market needs, adopting digital marketing strategies, and increasing participation in international exhibitions to ensure continued progress and more ambitious results. – (Petra)
