Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that Qatar expects to resume normal liquefied natural gas (LNG) production “within a few weeks,” according to an interview published by the Financial Times on Wednesday.
Al Thani also stressed that establishing a direct communication hotline between the United States and Iran is essential for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
QatarEnergy had suspended LNG production after the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. The suspension followed a drone attack on the company’s massive Ras Laffan industrial complex.
Qatar is one of the world’s leading exporters of liquefied natural gas, and the restoration of full production is expected to be closely watched by global energy markets.
