The Director of the Jordanian National Petroleum Company, Mohammad Al-Khasawneh, revealed strategic plans to develop the Risha gas field and gradually increase its production to higher levels by 2050.اضافة اعلان

Al-Khasawneh told the press that the field’s current production capacity exceeds 75 million cubic feet per day, with plans to raise production to 78 million cubic feet by the end of 2025, reaching 418 million cubic feet by 2030, peaking at 500 million cubic feet per day in 2034, and maintaining this level until the end of the project.

He noted that the Risha field currently supplies the Risha Power Plant with around 18–20 million cubic feet per day, in addition to quantities purchased by the Jordan Gas Company for industrial distribution, with two new companies expected to begin operations before the end of the year.

Al-Khasawneh indicated that this will raise the field’s contribution to about 15% of total domestic gas consumption by the second quarter of 2026.

New Exploration Plan

He revealed that the company is attracting international firms through a global tender to explore gas in areas outside its current operational scope, particularly in East Safawi, aiming to expand operations, secure funding, and transfer expertise, while confirming that no partner will be included in the current operational area.

According to the plan, investments will reach JD 2.53 billion over 27 years, including drilling 145 wells between 2025 and 2030, with 10 wells ready before the end of this year, in addition to establishing a natural gas processing plant by the end of 2027, in parallel with the Arab Gas Pipeline.

Regarding pricing, Al-Khasawneh explained that locally extracted gas is linked globally to crude oil prices, and locally priced according to a monthly formula announced on the same basis.

He also noted that the company is adopting an accelerated drilling plan using external service companies on a “turnkey” basis, emphasizing that drilling costs in Jordan are lower than in neighboring countries, which supports rapid expansion and cost reduction.
