The US Treasury Department on Tuesday announced sanctions against 10 individuals and entities, including parties based in China, Hong Kong and Pakistan, for assisting Iran’s Ministry of Defense in procuring weapons and related components.
The sanctions are part of a broader effort by US President Donald Trump’s administration to economically isolate Iran and pressure it to negotiate an end to the US-Iran war that began in February.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the department would continue targeting and disrupting those providing material, technical or financial support that enables the Iranian regime to continue its activities.
“As part of the ‘economic exclusion operation,’ the department will continue to target and disrupt those providing material, technical or financial support that enables the Iranian regime to continue its activities,” Bessent said. “The department will not tolerate any support for the regime and will continue to identify, expose and isolate entities enabling Iran to engage in these practices.”
The Treasury Department said the sanctions are intended to undermine Tehran’s ability to rebuild its weapons programs while increasing the costs for parties supporting its procurement efforts.
