His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday chaired a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace to review the government’s work in the gas sector and development plans aimed at strengthening energy security and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy.
During the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the National Policies Council, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and a number of relevant officials, the King was briefed on progress in implementing the plan to develop the Risha gas field and increase its production, as well as the latest developments in connecting the field to the Arab Gas Pipeline to strengthen gas supplies and support the needs of the energy sector.
King Abdullah also heard a briefing from Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh on the comprehensive plan for the gas sector, developments in Jordan’s gas market, and plans for importing and exporting gas. The briefing also covered the natural gas distribution project in Amman and Zarqa, which is intended to expand domestic use of natural gas.
The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Alaa Al Batayneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh, and Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh.
