His Majesty King Abdullah II held a series of meetings in New York on Tuesday with heads of state and delegations participating in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
The King met separately with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley.
King Abdullah also met with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah.
The meetings focused on the strong relations between Jordan and these friendly countries and ways to strengthen cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves shared interests.
The King discussed the dangerous escalation in the region, stressing the need to intensify international efforts to restore calm by reaching an agreement that guarantees the security of Arab countries.
He also stressed the need for full implementation of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, an end to attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, and a halt to violations targeting Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The meetings also addressed the serious repercussions of Israeli actions in Syria and Lebanon on regional security and stability. King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s support for the security, stability and sovereignty of Syria and Lebanon.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Royal Office Alaa Batayneh attended the meetings.
