His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday stressed the need to intensify international efforts to restore regional stability and resort to diplomacy and dialogue to resolve conflicts during a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The King stressed that lasting regional stability cannot be achieved without securing the full, legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution.
The King warned of the dangers posed by Israeli measures aimed at annexing territory and expanding settlements in the West Bank, as well as repeated attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Guterres praised Jordan’s efforts, under the leadership of King Abdullah, to advance peace and stability in the region and around the world, and commended the Kingdom’s cooperation with United Nations organizations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Royal Office Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Walid Obeidat attended the meeting.
