Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said Tuesday that Qatari mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are continuing, noting that Doha is relaying messages between the two sides as part of efforts to build common ground for a resolution.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha, Al Ansari said Qatar sees no solution to the crisis between Washington and Tehran other than a peaceful one. He stressed the need to respect infrastructure facilities across the region, warning that any threat to them would constitute a violation of international law.
He also warned against Israel’s efforts to impose a new reality in the occupied West Bank that runs counter to international consensus and the Oslo Accords, calling for greater efforts to halt Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
Al Ansari said the situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip involved widespread violations, adding that the government of Benjamin Netanyahu had repeatedly sought to undermine efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
He said Qatar participated in 80 meetings, events and ministerial partnerships during the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, addressing regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and developments in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
Earlier Tuesday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it rejected Israeli statements regarding the annexation of areas in southern Lebanon and other areas extending to the “Yellow Line” in the Gaza Strip, describing such moves as a challenge to international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
Qatar called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and compel Israel to halt its expansionist plans and settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.
