U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to reach a deal to end the war Russia is waging against Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said Putin “wants to make a deal,” adding that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also wants a deal, “that would be very good.”
“I know deals, and these are two people who are tired of fighting,” Trump added.
Trump’s remarks came a day after the Kremlin said he and Putin had discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine during a one-hour phone call, which Moscow described as “constructive and very candid.”
Putin met Saturday with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner before the two traveled to Kyiv, where they held an unprecedented meeting with Zelenskyy.
