Amman – Israel has expressed its outright rejection of the United Nations General Assembly resolution adopted on Friday regarding the two-state solution, describing it as “detached from reality” and “encouraging Hamas to continue the war.”

The UN General Assembly adopted the “New York Declaration,” which aims to provide renewed momentum for a two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, just ten days ahead of a summit co-chaired by Paris and Riyadh on September 22 at the UN, where French President Emmanuel Macron pledged recognition of the State of Palestine.
The text of the resolution was approved with 142 votes in favor, 10 against—including Israel and the United States—and 12 abstentions. It explicitly condemns Hamas and calls on the movement to disarm.
In a statement, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the new resolution “once again shows that the UN General Assembly has turned into a political circus, far removed from the realities on the ground.”
Israel criticized what it considered “a total disregard of Hamas’ role as a terrorist organization,” adding that the accompanying declaration, which included dozens of provisions, “did not contain a single reference to Hamas’ responsibility for continuing the fighting, its refusal to release hostages, or its need to disarm.”
Israel argued that the resolution does not advance the peace process but instead “provides cover for Hamas to continue the war,” and thanked the countries that did not vote in favor for “refusing to participate in this shameful position within the General Assembly.”
