UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday welcomed the Security Council’s adoption of the resolution concerning the Gaza Strip, calling it “an important step toward consolidating the ceasefire.”

In a press statement issued on his behalf, Guterres encouraged all parties to abide by the resolution, stressing the need to translate the current diplomatic momentum into urgent and concrete actions on the ground.
He added that the United Nations is committed to carrying out the roles assigned to it under the resolution, and to increasing the scale of humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of civilians in Gaza while supporting all efforts aimed at moving the parties toward the next phase of the ceasefire.
The Secretary-General praised the ongoing diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, the United States, and regional countries, emphasizing “the importance of advancing toward the second phase of the U.S. plan, leading to a political process that achieves the two-state solution, in accordance with previous UN resolutions.” (Petra)
