Brazilian President: “Final Solution” to Trade Dispute with U.S. Expected Within Days

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Lula said:
"I am confident that within a few days we will reach a final solution between the United States and Brazil, so life can continue well and happily."

Lula met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday after urging him earlier this month to lift the 50% punitive tariffs on Brazilian imports.

He described the meeting as unexpectedly positive, adding that Trump assured him that an agreement would be reached.

Besides tariffs, the U.S. had also imposed sanctions on several Brazilian officials, including a senior Supreme Court judge, in response to the trial of far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro, which Trump viewed as politically motivated.

When a journalist asked Trump whether the Bolsonaro case would be part of his talks with Lula, the U.S. president replied:
"That’s none of your business."
