Saudi fund finances electricity network for Azraq refugee camp

AMMAN — The Saudi Embassy in Amman announced Wednesday a grant of 34.5 million Saudi riyals (aroundJD6.4 million) to develop the electrical network for Azraq refugee Syrian camp east of the Kingdom.اضافة اعلان

In a statement, Saudi Ambassador in Amman Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairy said the project to develop electrical network in Azraq camp, offered as a grant under the Saudi Fund for Development's (SFD) action strategy, comes within the framework of supporting Syrian refugees and the hosting communities in Jordan.

The project is an extension of projects and programs that include road infrastructure, water, sewage, electricity, health, educational and living requirements, and shelter rehabilitation, according to the embassy's statement.

SFD was established with a capital of in 1974 and commenced on its mandate in the following year at the time of its inception, the Fund's capital amounted to 10 billion Saudi Riyals (around $2.7 billion) at inception, and increased threefold by 1991.

According to its website, the fund now contributes to the financing of 3,750 projects in 71 countries, including 41 African and 25 Asian countries, along with five in other parts of the world.
