Ministry spokesperson Omar Al-Maharmah said that ministry teams have completed cleaning and inspection works of water culverts across various regions of the Kingdom and continue to monitor them regularly to ensure their capacity to accommodate expected water volumes and prevent water pooling or erosion.
He added that specialized teams have distributed concrete barriers in areas prone to erosion, cleaned and prepared road shoulders, and installed necessary safety protections. This also included trimming unstable slopes along some roads to prevent landslides, securing them from an engineering perspective, and reinforcing hazardous sites with approximately 3,500 concrete barriers over the past few days.
Al-Maharmah noted that the works also included preparing and cleaning roadside ditches to ensure efficient rainwater drainage, in addition to carrying out routine and comprehensive maintenance of all machinery and verifying their technical readiness to handle any emergency during the depression’s impact period. Some culverts were also expanded using GRB culverts, which are characterized by ease of transport and installation.
He explained that the ministry has reinforced its machinery fleet in cooperation with contractors across all governorates to ensure rapid response and raise preparedness levels. This comes alongside the continuous operation of field teams, machinery, and emergency and operations rooms around the clock, in ongoing coordination with relevant authorities, particularly the Traffic Department and Highway Patrols, to regulate traffic and respond to any on-site developments.
Al-Maharmah said the ministry receives citizens’ reports through 15 operations rooms in its directorates around the clock to ensure rapid response and address any emergency. These reports are handled by 110 field teams supported by 135 government vehicles and 20 snowplows, in addition to 190 private-sector vehicles that are on standby and available upon request for immediate intervention when needed.
The ministry urged citizens not to hesitate to contact the main operations room via the unified number (106) from any mobile or landline phone, or through the number (06/5850111). Reports can also be submitted via WhatsApp at (0780377223).
It also called on citizens to submit reports directly to emergency rooms in the governorates through the designated numbers for each governorate: Amman (0780377291), Irbid (0780377276), Balqa (0780377413), Karak (0780377242), Mafraq (0780377389), Jerash (0780377187), Ajloun (0787700258), Madaba (0780377366), Zarqa (0780377125), Tafilah (0780377158), Ma’an (0780377338), Aqaba (0780377351), Ramtha (0780377388), and Petra (0780377179).
It is worth noting that the Jordan Meteorological Department warned earlier on Thursday of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, rising water levels in northern and central regions of the Kingdom and the southwestern areas, in addition to the Jordan Valley.
The department also warned of reduced horizontal visibility due to fog, low clouds touching the ground, and heavy rainfall, as well as the danger posed by strong winds and accompanying gusts. It pointed to the possibility of reduced visibility in desert areas due to dust, and cautioned against slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall, as well as taking risks by crossing flooded areas and wadis.
