AMMAN — Mayor of Amman Youssef Al-Shawarbeh launched the 16th phase of the Al-Hussein National Parks series on Saturday in Al-Nasr area of the capital, in celebration of the birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah on January 30 and Arbor Day, which falls on January 15, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

According to GAM Parks and Anti-Desertification Department Director Zaid Al-Hadid, works in this phase cover an area of 82 dunums and include planting 5,700 forest trees, which are produced by the department.

He added that stone ramps have been placed to prevent soil erosion, in addition to paths and sidewalks, a water tank with a capacity of 50 cubic meters, and irrigation networks.

This step “comes in line with the vision and directives of His Majesty King Abdullah to increase the green cover in eastern Amman, to enhance efforts to combat desertification and preserve green vegetation, and to secure a natural outlet for citizens,” Shawarbeh said.

He stressed that the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) will continue agricultural work that achieves environmental balance, keeping up the maintenance of parks, which serve as community outlets.
