During a meeting Monday with his Palestinian counterpart, Mohammad Shtayyeh, the premier outlined Jordan’s diplomatic efforts in serving the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s rights.

He stressed Jordan’s continuous efforts to safeguard the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in line with the Hashemite Custodianship over holy shrines in holy city.

Khasawneh reiterated that the Jordanian diplomatic push is focused on maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and the status quo in Jerusalem, as well as on ways to stop the Israeli provocations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and illegal attempts to forcibly evict people from their homes, especially in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

For his part, Shtayyeh commended King Abdullah’s efforts to support the Palestinian cause, underscoring the mutual diplomatic efforts carried out by Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi and his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad Al-Malki to reach a just solution for the Palestinian cause.

He also stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship on the holy sites in Jerusalem, calling for a comprehensive national dialogue to strengthen the Palestinian unity to claim back their rights.

Both ministers talked about boosting the bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries in light of crucial circumstances surrounding the Palestinian cause.

They also emphasized that the international community must provide continuous support for UNRWA and its efforts in supporting Palestinian refugees in Palestine and surrounding regions.
