Nidal Qatamin confirmed on Wednesday that the government places high priority on the public transportation sector and supports the implementation of strategic projects aimed at improving the quality of services provided to citizens, in line with the objectives of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision.
His remarks came during the signing ceremony of the second phase of the regular public transport project, which aims to strengthen connectivity between governorates and advance the transition toward smart transportation. The agreement was signed by Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Integrated Multi-Transport Company, and Amman Vision Transport Company.
Qatamin said the agreement marks an important step in the development of Jordan’s public transport system.
He added that the second phase represents an advanced organizational step toward establishing an integrated and scheduled public transportation network that utilizes modern technologies and provides high-quality, safe, and reliable services. The initiative is expected to save time and effort for passengers, reduce traffic congestion, encourage greater use of public transport, improve operational efficiency, and enhance safety and sustainability across the sector.
The agreement defines the roles and responsibilities of the participating entities. The Land Transport Regulatory Commission will oversee the project, manage contracts, and monitor implementation. The Integrated Multi-Transport Company will handle daily operational management and service delivery, while Amman Vision Transport Company will operate intelligent transportation systems and the electronic payment platform.
Services under the second phase are expected to begin by the end of the current month. The expansion aims to broaden the regular transport network and strengthen connections between Jordan’s governorates, particularly linking Amman with the southern governorates, while also improving integration between the northern and central regions.
The second phase includes the operation of nine routes, including seven main corridors:
* Amman – Ma’an
* Amman – Tafilah
* Amman – Ajloun
* Irbid – Zarqa
* Zarqa – Mafraq
* Jerash – Irbid
* Jerash – Mafraq
In addition, two routes approved by the Council of Ministers will be introduced:
* Karak – Zarqa
* Karak – Aqaba
With the expansion, the project’s fleet will reach 210 buses, with an estimated daily capacity of approximately 13,500 passengers.
The new phase aims to significantly improve the public transport experience by providing a more efficient, user-friendly, and reliable service. It will also accelerate digital transformation through the implementation of smart transportation technologies, including:
* Real-time bus tracking
* Electronic payment systems
* On-board CCTV monitoring
These technologies are expected to improve service quality, enhance operational efficiency, provide accurate passenger information, and strengthen safety and oversight standards.
The project is also expected to support economic and social development, improve connectivity across the Kingdom, align with the goals of the Economic Modernization Vision, and reinforce public-private sector partnerships in the implementation of major national projects.
