Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya on Monday sponsored the launch of the national awareness campaign titled “Yes to Life... No to Drugs”, organized by the Public Security Directorate (PSD) at Yarmouk University, in the presence of PSD Director Major General Ubaidallah Al-Ma’aytah, Yarmouk University President Malik Al-Shraireh, and Irbid Governor Radwan Al-Atoom.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and methods of prevention within a comprehensive national framework that brings together official, academic, and youth institutions. It places special focus on university students and young people as the group most capable of driving positive change in society.
In his remarks during the ceremony, Minister Al-Faraya stressed that combating drugs is a shared national responsibility, not limited to security agencies alone, but one that integrates the roles of families, schools, universities, and the media in protecting society and safeguarding youth from this serious threat.
He expressed his appreciation to the Public Security Directorate for its extensive efforts in fighting drug-related crimes through law enforcement, awareness, prevention, and treatment programs. He also praised Yarmouk University for hosting the event, emphasizing the importance of universities’ educational role in building an aware generation capable of saying, “Yes to Life... No to Drugs.”
For his part, Brigadier General Hassan Al-Qudah, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, affirmed that the Directorate continues its efforts to protect society from drugs through an integrated strategy encompassing security, awareness, and rehabilitation aspects. He noted that addressing drug-related issues requires collective responsibility and national solidarity.
Meanwhile, University President Al-Shraireh expressed pride in Yarmouk University’s selection to host and inaugurate this national campaign, reflecting the active partnership between security and academic institutions in serving the community. He commended university students for their role in promoting awareness and supporting national efforts to combat drugs.
The ceremony also featured a friendly football match between former and current national team players, held in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and sportsmanship to deliver a powerful youth message: “Sports lead to life... not to drugs.”
Additionally, an outdoor awareness exhibition was held on the university grounds, showcasing educational materials, videos, and brochures about the dangers of drugs and ways to prevent them, along with success stories in treatment and rehabilitation.
The event was attended by senior PSD officers, administrative governors of Irbid Governorate, representatives of official and civil institutions, members of local security councils, and a large crowd of Yarmouk University and school students.
The awareness campaign will continue for two weeks, featuring youth-centered activities and events aimed at reinforcing the values of life and raising awareness about the dangers and social impacts of drug abuse.
