Jordan’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing will begin comprehensive maintenance work on Airport Road on Wednesday evening, covering the section from Al-Zaytoonah University to the Madaba Bridge.
The project is part of a broader contract for asphalt pavement maintenance, road safety improvements, protection of water infrastructure, and stormwater drainage works on several major roads in the central region. The project is scheduled to take 180 days to complete at an estimated cost of nearly JOD 2 million.
According to a ministry statement, the works will include milling existing asphalt layers, repairing surface depressions and cracks, laying new asphalt pavement, carrying out excavation, backfilling and base preparation where required, renewing road markings and traffic safety features, and maintaining water structures and stormwater drainage systems in accordance with the highest approved engineering standards.
The ministry has developed a traffic management plan in coordination with the Central Traffic Department and the External Patrols Department to ensure smooth traffic flow. Construction will be carried out in successive phases using temporary traffic diversions equipped with all necessary warning signs.
To minimize disruption, the work will be conducted overnight. On regular weekdays, construction will take place from midnight until 6:00 a.m., while on Fridays and Saturdays it will run from 1:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. This schedule will remain in effect until the project is completed.
The ministry noted that the contract also covers several other major roads in central Jordan. It recently completed maintenance work on the Muwaqqar Road between the Training City and Faisaliya Intersection, the Al-Salam Road leading to the Dead Sea, and the Salt Ring Road from Dabbaba Bridge to Zi Bridge, all in accordance with the approved timetable.
The ministry urged motorists to exercise caution, comply with traffic signs and warning instructions in work zones, and follow the directions of on-site personnel and Public Security Directorate officers to ensure road safety and allow the project to be completed on schedule.
