Jordan and the European Union (EU) reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing partnership and cooperation in the fields of justice and security.
This came during the 10th meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice and Security, held recently in Amman within the framework of the 2002 Association Agreement between the two sides, the Partnership Priorities for 2021–2027, and the comprehensive strategic partnership signed earlier this year.

According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU Delegation in Amman on Saturday, the meeting marked an important milestone in underscoring the two parties’ commitment to deepening cooperation on security and judicial matters. Discussions included regional challenges and their impact on Jordan’s security environment, including the crisis in Gaza and developments in Syria.
The two sides addressed key issues related to integrated border management, combating terrorism and violent extremism, and tackling arms and drug trafficking, as well as judicial cooperation in civil and criminal cases.
They welcomed the prospect of holding the first Jordan–EU security and defense dialogue in the near future.
Discussions also covered opportunities to enhance cooperation and support Jordan’s capacities through participation in EU-funded programs, follow-up on operational arrangements between Europol and Jordan’s Public Security Directorate, and exploring avenues of cooperation with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
The EU reiterated its ongoing support for Jordan’s justice sector reforms, including through joint cooperation programs, in addition to exploring ways to strengthen cooperation with the EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust).
The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Samer Naber, Director of European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Alessio Cappellani, Head of the Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria Division at the European External Action Service. – (Petra)
