Three days later, the reason behind the outage still remains unclear. A government press conference pointed to an electrical malfunction between Jordan and Egypt, an explanation that Egyptian officials denied, while others speculated about a shutdown in electrical generators and cited administrative failure by the National Electrical Power Company.

The ambiguity surrounding the malfunction has raised some questions about the lack of transparency of some of the committees doing the investigating, causing confusion and allowing for rumors to spread.

Costs of the power outage are estimated at JD15 million.
