The project and its two parts, called “Blue” and “Raman”, is expected to be operational in 2024 and has an initial budget of about $400 million, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The city of Aqaba was chosen as the convergence point for the project’s cables, which will extend for 8,000km, from India to Italy, passing through many countries and continents.

According to sources, Naitel, a Jordanian company in Aqaba, will provide infrastructure services for the project inside Jordan, including operation and maintenance.

The new cables aim to give service providers the capacity they need, using data centers and landing stations to support and develop the internet capabilities of both companies and users.

Blue will connect Italy, France, Greece, and Israel, while Raman will connect Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Oman, and India, according to a statement released by Sparkle.
