The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), in cooperation with the Royal Department for Environmental Protection in the Capital Region, has closed a non-compliant factory and its external workshop that were producing paper plates and cardboard products not meeting the requirements for materials intended for contact with food.

In a press statement, the JFDA explained that the factory did not obtain the official approvals required to produce food-contact packaging materials and failed to comply with hygiene and public health standards. Approximately two tons of non-compliant packaging materials were seized.
The administration urged consumers and businesses to ensure that packaging bears a “food-grade” label or the “cup and fork” symbol, which indicates that the product is safe for contact with food. It stressed that any food contained in packaging made from materials not intended for food contact is considered unfit for consumption.
