This decision comes as part of efforts to reactivate the Higher Health Council, in a move aimed at strengthening health governance and unifying the authorities responsible for setting national health policies. The step is in line with government directions to develop the health sector and enhance planning efficiency and responsiveness to current and future health challenges.

Minister of Health and Chairman of the Higher Health Council, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Baddour, stated that halting the procedures related to abolishing the Higher Health Council and moving to reactivate it marks a pivotal milestone in the path of health sector reform. He noted that, following this decision, the council will work on formulating health policies and strategies, ensuring coordination and integration among all relevant entities in both the public and private sectors.

Dr. Al-Baddour added that the coming phase will witness structured institutional work based on scientific evidence and data, which will positively reflect on the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens. He emphasized that the Higher Health Council is the supreme national body responsible for setting health policies and coordinating efforts across various health sectors.

He also pointed out that the council will contribute to rationalizing healthcare spending and enhancing the efficiency of resource utilization through sound planning and coordination, in addition to supporting health-related decision-making based on national priorities. He affirmed that the Ministry of Health will work in cooperation with all partners to activate the council’s role and enable it to perform its duties in line with best global practices.

Dr. Al-Baddour concluded by noting that the next phase will include activating specialized technical committees and strengthening partnerships with academic and professional institutions, ensuring the achievement of the council’s objectives and its strategic role in supporting the national health system.
