Teaching staff reported to work a week ago to complete all necessary preparations for the start of the school year. These preparations included readying classrooms and school facilities, organizing and handing out textbooks to students, preparing lists and plans, allocating class sections, and registering transfer students.
Earlier, the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Nawaf Al-Ajarmeh, stated that starting the school year on August 23 is not a new decision, but rather a schedule followed for three consecutive academic years. He explained that the school calendar was developed in line with the Education and Human Resources Development Law, which mandates no fewer than 200 actual teaching days per year.
He added that bringing forward the start date of the academic year is part of a national program to support student learning, address learning loss, reinforce foundational skills, and raise academic achievement.
Al-Ajarmeh further noted that the Ministry maintained this approach based on diagnostic survey results, which demonstrated improvements in student achievement—particularly in reading and arithmetic—compared to the baseline prior to implementing remedial programs.
Preparations also involve conducting make-up exams for students and compiling their results before the school year starts, alongside teachers preparing annual and terminal instructional plans to ensure an organized start to the new academic year.
