Vanilla: 1 teaspoon
Clotted cream (Qishta): ½ cup
Mixed nuts: 1 cup (almonds, pistachios, walnuts, cashews)
Shredded coconut: 2 tablespoons
Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
Additional clotted cream (for serving, optional)
Crushed pistachios (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
Lay the puff pastry squares on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake until puffed and golden (about 10–12 minutes). Let cool, then break into small uneven pieces.
In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla until it starts to simmer gently, then remove from heat.
In a deep baking dish, layer the baked puff pastry pieces, then sprinkle a layer of nuts. Repeat until all pastry and nuts are used.
Pour the hot milk mixture over the layers so the pastry absorbs the liquid, but don’t overfill—it should just cover the pieces.
Spread the clotted cream evenly on top.
Place the dish in the preheated oven for 10–15 minutes until the layers meld and the top turns lightly golden. Optionally, brown the top slightly under the broiler.
Serve in individual cups or small clay dishes with a spoonful of fresh clotted cream and a sprinkle of crushed pistachios on top.
This version of Om Ali is rich, warm, and nutty, combining the crispiness of puff pastry with creamy, milky layers—a perfect indulgent treat!
