AMMAN — A number of Premier division clubs have demanded that the Jordan Volleyball Federation reschedule championships, citing the National Center for Security and Crises Management’s decision to close clubs and athletic venues until mid-may.
The clubs, which include Shabab Al-Hussein, Al-Wehdat, Al-Awdeh, Aira, Al-Karmel, Wadi Mousa, Al-Baqaa, Al-Mishwar, Mleeh and Al-Mashare, has previously demanded in official letters that the federation grant them 90 days to sufficiently prepare for events.
The 10 teams called on the volleyball federation to postpone the league and cup, and the Super Cup championships to mid-July or early August, stressing that the pandemic has made things difficult for all the teams involved.
Premier division clubs have had to leave the court for two years due to the cancellation of the Premier League’s two previous seasons.
“We are still waiting on government decisions, likely to be issued soon, to reconsider the start date of our championship. We are on the side of clubs, on which the game’s continuity depends,” Jordan Volleyball Federation spokesperson, Jihad Quteishat, told Jordan News.
He added: “All stakeholders have been affected by the long standing disruption,” noting that most recently, youth clubs have been affected by the closures, but are still training in the Qasr Al-Riyadhah Hall in the Hussein Youth CIty to prepare for the youth Championship, which Egypt is set to host in September.
The volleyball federation’s temporary committee had slated the Super Cup match between Shabab Al-Hussein and Wadi Mousa for June 15. The Jordan Cup was scheduled for the end of June and was meant to act as a preparation stage before the league tournament set to begin in July and end in August.
