Jordan’s national teams across various sports are preparing to face major Asian and international milestones during 2026, in pursuit of new achievements to add to their previous records.

The year 2026 will witness important, decisive, and unprecedented commitments, topped by the historic participation of the Jordan national football team in the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time ever. This landmark achievement has captured the hearts of Jordanians, who will follow Al-Nashama on their global mission at the World Cup, set to kick off in the United States, Mexico, and Canada next June.
This World Cup appearance is considered the most significant event for Jordanian sports in the new year, particularly as expectations and ambitions have risen in light of the remarkable development of Al-Nashama.
In football as well, the Olympic national team will begin its campaign in the AFC Asian Cup, which kicks off next week in Saudi Arabia. Fans have high hopes for this participation, especially following a series of achievements by the senior national team.
The new year will also feature several major sporting milestones for Jordan, including the participation of the national handball team in the Asian Championship to be held in Kuwait, marking an important stage for the handball squad.
In basketball, the national team continues its quest to qualify for the FIBA World Cup for the fourth time. It will resume its Asian qualifiers in February, playing two matches against Iran and Iraq, both scheduled to be held in Beirut.
The participation of Jordan’s karate and taekwondo national teams in numerous international championships will also represent key milestones in 2026. Both teams are regarded among the best in Asia and the world, thanks to their outstanding results in various competitions, which have consistently led to podium finishes and medal wins.
Jordanian football expert and international and Asian lecturer Ziad Akkouba said that national teams across all sports are set for significant international participations in the new year, with the most important being Al-Nashama’s World Cup appearance.
Akkouba added that Al-Nashama will dominate the spotlight, noting that Jordanians and fellow Arabs alike are eagerly anticipating this historic Jordanian participation in the World Cup.
For his part, Taekwondo Federation spokesperson Faisal Al-Abdallat said that Jordan’s taekwondo national teams face important commitments throughout the year, expressing confidence in their ability to make 2026 another year full of achievements, as in previous years.
Sports fan Maher Mousa said that despite his passion for following sporting achievements across various disciplines, this year will be unlike previous ones, as the focus will be firmly on Al-Nashama at the World Cup. He added that while there are many national team commitments to follow and support, the greatest excitement will be watching Al-Nashama on the world’s biggest stage.
It is worth noting that most national teams across all sports have important milestones awaiting them in the new year, with hopes that Jordanian athletes will continue to shine in various international arenas.
