Her Royal Highness, in the presence of Brig. Gen. Dr. Sahl Al-Hammouri, Director-General of the Royal Medical Services, warned that the absence of medicine, weak healthcare infrastructure, and the fragility or collapse of health systems pose a real threat to public health—no less dangerous than wars and conflicts.
Princess Basma highlighted the importance of such medical gatherings in fostering the exchange of research and expertise to improve and reform healthcare systems, enhance their quality, and ultimately improve people’s lives by ensuring access to proper healthcare and affirming the right of every human being to health.
She also drew attention to the collapse of the health system in Gaza over the past two years, amid severe shortages of water and food and widespread famine. Her Royal Highness cited reports by international organizations noting a sharp rise in malnutrition among children under five, with 43% of pregnant and nursing women suffering from malnutrition, along with rising rates of hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.
Her Royal Highness commended the significant progress of Jordan’s medical sector—both public and private—and the high expertise and professionalism of Jordanian medical personnel, which have made the Kingdom a leading destination for medical tourism in the region.
