Novorossiysk holds significant military strategic importance for Russia, having emerged in recent years as a primary hub for the Black Sea Fleet. The shift followed repeated Ukrainian attacks on Russian naval vessels stationed in the Crimean Peninsula, which forced Moscow to relocate a portion of its naval assets to safer positions.

Through these strikes, Ukraine seeks to apply pressure on Russian military and logistical capabilities while targeting infrastructure tied to energy supplies and maritime transport, as part of Kyiv's efforts to undermine Moscow's ability to sustain its military operations.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that Moscow launched missiles and 138 drones targeting Ukrainian territory overnight, with air defense systems shooting down or intercepting 112 of the incoming drones. The Russian strikes primarily targeted the Odesa region in the south and Sumy in the northeast.
