Eight police officers were injured during riots that broke out in central France, BFM TV reported, citing sources.
The unrest began in the town of Saint-Pierre-des-Corps after a police vehicle struck a motorcyclist while officers were attempting to stop noisy motorcycle rides following complaints from local residents.

According to the same source, police officers were forced to take shelter inside a nearby police station amid anger among the motorcyclists, while dozens of people threw fireworks. Two police vehicles and two privately owned cars were set on fire.
To restore order, authorities deployed a large security force of around 100 officers, including members of specialized police units. Protesters managed to erect barricades and start fires.
Police detained five people during the operation, while the officer who struck the motorcyclist was placed in custody pending investigation.
The unrest comes amid growing calls on social media for a possible demonstration on October 17. Fabien Roussel, the former French Communist Party candidate for president, had earlier called for a revival of the “Yellow Vest” movement over rising fuel prices. BFM TV reported that the developments prompted French intelligence services to raise their level of vigilance.
