Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the negotiations—bringing together delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine—will be held “behind closed doors,” stressing the need to maintain confidentiality at this sensitive stage. Intensive discussions are expected to continue over February 17 and 18.

The Russian delegation arrived at Geneva Airport earlier today aboard an aircraft operated by the official flight unit, marking the formal start of the scheduled talks.

Speaking to reporters, Peskov cautioned against expecting immediate results or decisive announcements on the first day, given the complexity of the issues under discussion. He noted that the participating parties will determine the precise timing of negotiation sessions based on the progress of technical and political deliberations.

This round of talks carries exceptional significance due to the high level of representation. The Russian side is headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, while the U.S. delegation prominently includes Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, alongside U.S. official Witkoff.

The composition of the delegations reflects a desire to establish direct and effective communication channels capable of forging understandings that move beyond decades of diplomatic stalemate.

The Geneva negotiations come at a critical juncture, as international powers seek to curb military escalation and identify an acceptable framework for a political settlement.

Despite cautious optimism expressed by the Kremlin, attention remains focused on continuing consultations tomorrow, Wednesday, in an effort to shape a practical framework for a Ukrainian-Russian agreement backed by American guarantees. This explains the parties’ insistence on keeping deliberations away from media scrutiny to maximize the chances of achieving meaningful breakthroughs in the crisis.
