China’s Ministry of Defense announced late Saturday that China and Russia carried out their third round of joint missile-defense exercises on Russian soil in early December.

According to a statement posted on the ministry’s website, the drills were not aimed at any third party and were not a response to current international developments.
The two countries held talks on missile defense and strategic stability last month and conducted artillery and anti-submarine exercises in the Sea of Japan in August.
Beijing and Moscow declared a “no-limits” strategic partnership shortly before Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, pledging to hold regular military exercises to enhance coordination between their armed forces.
Both nations have also expressed concern over U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans to build a missile-defense shield known as the “Golden Dome” and his stated intention to resume nuclear weapons testing after a hiatus of more than 30 years.
